Classroom Guidance Information
Mrs. Mayle, School counselor
This year
my classroom visits will focus on the Six Pillars of Character which include:
trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, citizenship, and
caring. Each classroom will
receive two lessons about each word. The character word for November was
Trustworthiness.
The first
lesson included a puppet show about a girl who lost the trust of her friend by
lying and not keeping her promises.
She talks to “Character Ed”, who helps her learn how to earn back his
trust. During a discussion, we
talked about the importance of telling the truth even when we think we might be
in trouble. I ended the lesson by describing
different scenarios. Students had
to decide whether the person was being trustworthy or not.
For the
second lesson, I read the fable, “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, the moral of the story
being people won’t believe liars even when they tell the truth. I ended the lesson by displaying a
paper chain representing the strength of trust. Each ring of the chain listed acts of trustworthiness. When someone lies or doesn’t do what
they say they will do, the chain is weakened or breaks.
During the
month of January, we will be discussing the meaning of respect.
Illness and Attendance Reminders
If your
child is out due to illness, please remember to call the school at
779-3570. If your child has
been seen by a doctor, please have the doctor provide a medical excuse for the
days of absence. Send the
excuse to school so we can document it with your child’s attendance record.
