Chestnut Intermediate School Counseling Program

Our school counselor is Mr. Glenn Luttner.  Mr. Luttner is in our school this year on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays he is at Spruce Elementary School. He can be reached at Spruce by calling 440-801-5050, x3453 or x3438 at Chestnut.

Counseling Services:

Individual Counseling

The counselor works individually with students on a short-term basis. Some concerns include: friendship issues, difficulty in the classroom, on the playground, or on the bus, conflict resolution, new student concerns, difficulty coming to school, anger management, and loss of a pet or a loved one.

Small Group Counseling

Small groups are formed based on need. Small groups usually meet for thirty minutes, one time per week for 4-6 weeks. Some topics include: friendship skills, loss, divorce, new student groups, buddy groups, and support buddies.

Large Group Counseling

Students may receive a series of classroom guidance lessons. These lessons are generally based on student need and teacher request. These lessons are developmentally appropriate for each grade level and are generally preventative in nature. The goal is to empower students to become self-directed learners, effective communicators, collaborative workers, and creative problem solvers. Some topics included are conflict resolution, empathy training, problem solving, drug awareness, celebrating differences, friendship skills, and coping with difficult transitions.

Intervention Assistance Team (IAT)

IAT is a team-focused approach that identifies a specific concern a student may be experiencing, either academic or behavioral. The team, which includes the parents, teacher, principal, school psychologist, and school counselor, meets to develop interventions to address the concern. The interventions are monitored and the results are reviewed at a follow up meeting. Teachers or parents may make referrals to IAT.

Other Services:
Provide resources for parents and staff.
