Levy
The Board of Education has voted to place the 7.9 mil levy
on the ballot in August. Although the levy was defeated in May, there seems to
be a lot of parent and community support to give it another try in August. The
last time I looked, only about half of the parents of students are registered
to vote. If registering to vote is something you meant to do, but just never
got around to it, we have Voter Registration Cards available at our front desk.
Stop in and pick one up, or give Linda Winners a call (779-3540) to have one
sent home with your child.
End of the Year Awards Assembly
Our final Awards Assembly for students in grades one through
three will be held on Tuesday, June 8h beginning at 10:00 A.M. We
hope to hold this assembly outside on the blacktop, weather permitting. Parents
are welcome to attend.
Are You Moving?
If you are planning on moving within or out of the North
Olmsted school district over the summer months, please be sure to notify our
office (779-3540) or central office registration (779-3536). It can help to
avoid confusion at the beginning of the next school year by arranging for the
transfer of records over the summer.
The Spruce office is open one week after school closes and two weeks
before school opens.
If you are planning a move outside North Olmsted you will
have to register your child(ren) in that city’s school district. Ohio school
district’s will be unable to register your children if you have not withdrawn
them from North Olmsted. Contact Mrs. Winners at 440-779-3540 if you need to
withdraw your child(ren).
August Mailings
Watch for homeroom assignments that will arrive in homes
around August 16th. Transportation information and bus assignments should also
arrive that week. At this point, all Transportation Variances have been
cancelled for next year due to the failure of the May levy.
WOW Day
Mr. Korinchak has been busy organizing our Spruce WOW Day
scheduled for Friday, June 4th. The morning events will be for
morning kindergarten students and first grade students. The afternoon events
will be for afternoon kindergarten students, second grade students and third
grade students. Students in first through third grade will have lunch provided
by the Spruce PTA. Thanks to the many moms and dads who have volunteered to
assist on WOW Day. It’s not too
late to still volunteer. Be sure to dress your children for the weather.
Sunscreen is always a wise choice, even on cloudy days. Please note,
we are hoping for good weather, there is no rain date for our WOW Day.
Spruce Yearbooks
A few copies are still available for purchase for $13.00.
Contact Mrs. Winners at our front desk.
A Final 09-10 Thanks
Thanks to Spruce PTA President Lynn Hirz, all our PTA
Officers, Committee Chairpersons, and volunteers who provided so many hours of
service to the students and staff of Spruce Primary School. Thanks also to
those who were not able to provide time, but supported our PTA through their
membership or participating in fundraising events. Your support is greatly
appreciated. There are still a few committee chair positions open for next
year. Contact Lyn Hirz at 716-1840 or Melissa Snahnican at 716-1840 if you can
help out by being a committee chairperson.
With my retirement at the end of this school year, Mrs.
Denise Ressler will be taking over as principal at Spruce for next year. Mrs.
Ressler has worked for North Olmsted Schools for 12 years. She has been a
teacher at Maple School and Birch School. She is currently the Consulting
Teacher, assisting and evaluating our new teachers. Mrs. Ressler has been
spending some time with our students and me to help with the transition.
And a final thanks to all the Spruce children and families
for making my years here at Spruce so memorable. Also, thank you for the
surprise “bucket filling” that took place the night of our Open House and Ice
Cream Social.
Best Wishes to you all!
Dan Mohar
