The district installed new energy efficient doors, windows, screens, boilers and lights in a number of buildings with no cost to residents by taking advantage of the provisions in House Bill 264 that provide funds for the upgrades. 

The Energy Conservation Program allows our district to make $3.2 million in energy efficiency improvements to the buildings, and use the cost savings to pay for those improvements.

The building upgrades will result in utility cost savings of over $284,000 each year and provide an improved comfort level for students, staff and parents.

House Bill 264, passed into law in 1985, creates the financing mechanism that allows districts the opportunity to borrow funds to make the energy improvements, at no added cost to the taxpayer.

Since the inception of the program, more than 500 Ohio school districts have taken advantage of this opportunity.

A list of the improvements made in each building is attached. 

For example, Birch Primary students will now be able to open the windows in the gym to create a better atmosphere.  Birch was one of the schools that also had new boilers installed.

Kudos to all of the building and district maintenance staff for their extra effort this summer in getting the buildings ready on time while adjusting their schedules to fit with the many contractors on site all summer.
