Strut'n Our Strings Festival ConcertOrchestra students in grades five through twelve came together on May 10th for a day filled with music education and collaboration as they worked together to perfect their sound for the evening concert.
Concert guests experienced the progression of performance as students move from elementary school through high school and gain proficiency. The increasing difficulty of the music was shown as students in the fifth grade start with the basics such as "Frere Jacques" or "Country Cookin" and progress through seventh and eighth grade playing the "William Tell Overture" or "Funny Fiddlin'." The high school students, who act as both role models and inspiration, performed complicated orchestral pieces that included "Return of the Monarchs" by Victor Lopez. From "Medieval Kings" to Handel's "Royal Fireworks" and Tchaikovsky's "Marche Slave" - the students and their teachers (and parents!) work hard together to celebrate the musical arts. The full combined grade 5-12 strings and orchestra joined together to perform "Great Gate of Kiev" by Mussorgsky as the finale.
