District Statement March 13, 2020

March 13, 2020

Dear North Olmsted Community,

We would like to provide additional details regarding the school closure. This is a very unique situation and we appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate the challenges that COVID-19 has presented to our school community.

Additional information will be available Monday afternoon regarding online/eLearning resources for students and families. I am very proud of our entire staff and the amazing way they have responded to this unprecedented emergency situation. They have clearly demonstrated how dedicated they are to our students and the community.

On Monday, March 16th, all school buildings will be open regular school hours for students or parents who might need to pick up any personal belongings or medications that are at school. Beginning Tuesday, March 17th, all school buildings will be closed for the duration of the three-week period to maintain assurance that all spaces have been fully cleaned and disinfected.

We know that some of our families rely heavily on breakfast and lunch service in our schools. We are currently working with our food service department and will be in contact with details about access and delivery of food during this three-week period.

In conjunction with the school closure several events have been cancelled. A full list of cancellations can be found on the district website. The Ohio High School Athletic Association has decided to follow the same guidelines set forth by Governor DeWine. With that being said, during the three-week closure, North Olmsted spring athletes are not to participate on any non-interscholastic teams (summer or travel baseball/softball), as the OHSAA will still view these athletes as in-season.

Our district website is the best way to stay informed about district decisions, event cancellations and resources. Our COVID-19 page will be updated on a regular basis as decisions are made and new information becomes available.

Again, this a fluid and evolving situation, but we are confident that our staff and community will come together to meet this challenge. We will continue to be in communication with our families as we navigate this unprecedented situation.

Sincerely,

Michael E. Zalar Ph.D.

Superintendent
