Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! I am honored to be your new superintendent and excited to begin our work together.
The North Olmsted City Schools continue to be a high performing district. The teachers, administrators and support staff have worked hard to develop a program that has earned the state's highest designation, "Excellent with Distinction," consistently throughout the past seven years.
The transition to new public education reform initiatives such as the adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Third Grade Reading Guarantee, new evaluation systems for both teachers and principals (OTES and OPES), and the adoption of a new State Report Card are huge changes that are all converging at the same time. These standards will significantly "raise the bar" for both student and staff accountability. It is essential that we all work together to meet the challenge and provide a world class 21st century education for every child.
This year promises to be one of both challenge and opportunity. As a result of the many school reform initiatives and increased expectations for performance (both student and staff), new schedules and start times have been developed to increase learning opportunities for students and provide important collaboration time for staff.
The goal is to improve our service as a learning organization and help students increase their academic achievement so they will be better prepared for college and career. I am confident that together we will make this new system work!
The "Journey to Excellence" is a never ending journey. There is no finish line. We must begin this journey anew every day. It is an incredible opportunity and privilege to be able to serve you and your children in this worthy cause. With your help, we will accomplish our goals and continue learning and growing together on our journey down the path of excellence.
