Tom Herbster has been on the board for several years starting in January of 1988. Since retiring from the City of North Olmsted in 2015, Tom has volunteered at Birch, Forest and Spruce in the kindergarten classes each week. In 2016 he learned that there was a lack of books in many students homes. He has gone out each year since and bought 300 hard cover books and gave one to each of the kindergartner in the district to take home and keep as their own.
Tom has twice been nominated as a finalist for one of the 5 All Ohio School Board Award selected each year . Tom also has been both president and vice president for both N. O. City Schools and the Polaris Career Center. Tom has been selected as both the North Olmsted Citizen of the Year and the Alumni of the Year. He has been co-chair of the After Prom, a cub master for pack 52, a coach for both hot stove and NOSO, the N.O. Homecoming Midway co-Chair for the last 23 years and a member of the N.O. Planning Commission. Tom has served as both president and vice president of the Alumni Association, N.O. Community Council, Kiwanis and PTA units and PTA Council.
