NOCS will be supplying students in grades K-12 with a Chromebook. Students in grades 5-12 will receive a device to take home daily. All other students will have access to a device that will remain at school. To have enough Chromebooks to get one to each student, some Chromebooks will be previously used Chromebooks, and others will be new purchases, but all Chromebooks will be supported by the district. This device will be the property of the district, but will be available for students to use on campus and for those in grades 5-12, anywhere outside of the district with internet access. Using the Chromebook will allow student access to the G Suite for Education, Powerschool, and other web-based educational tools required by the curriculum. The Chromebook is an educational tool and not intended for gaming, social media/networking or other high end computing.
The student’s internet usage will be monitored and filtered for educational use only. The Chromebooks are filtered through an installed extension that ensures the students safety no matter what internet connection they are using. No web filtering product is guaranteed to work 100% of the time as images, videos, or even full websites will inevitably go unfiltered. A conversation between a student and their parent/guardian over Internet Safety and the expectations of behavior while online will always be the best way to ensure a student’s safety online.
